Comments from Karen Topakian, Executive Director, Agape Foundation, from The Grantseeker’s Guide to Winning Proposals:
We thought the answers to the following two questions were particularly compelling: the description of the need for the funds and the description of Consejo Popular’s strategy. The organization answered each question thoroughly and directly. They quoted statistical information where necessary to support their arguments. We thought the applicant wrote a compelling case for the need to fight gentrification in their community and the economic choices that most hourly minimum-wage workers face. We liked that their proposal avoided the use of jargon. Further, they left enough white space in the page for the eye to rest. This proposal may not have been written by someone who speaks English as their first language, but that did not hinder them from presenting convincing arguments and making the issues any less urgent.
